Abstract

Drawing on one of Aristotles’ rhetorical theory of argumentative persuasion, logos, this paper aims to identify the rhetorical strategies employed by Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ), the former Minister of Health Malaysia, in his press conference discourses to journalists covering the events. By examining the discourses, the researchers try to highlight the linguistic performances, specifically in the use of logos, in KJ’s press conferences on Covid-19’s daily updates. Written transcripts of his statements from downloaded YouTube videos were made to enable the researchers to examine the responses thoroughly and identify some of the most representative and typical linguistic evidence of logos from his statements.
